What I'm reading right now is Brian Boyd's Nabokov's Pale Fire.

Finished The Verificationist -- very good and very strange, and beautifully written. (See this review for a good assesment, and here's another one.)
Verified painting: Jan Brueghel the Elder's A Woodland Road with Travelers. (More Brueghel.) (p. 98 hb)

Finished The Pickwick Papers -- Dickens is a force, a torrent of events and prose that leaves me a happy reader, someone happy to be a reader, grateful for the sweet smell of the pulp used by Penguin classics, moved by the tidy, massive block of tiny print. I'm leaving it at that.

I'm catching up on the last three issues of The New Yorker. I love the magazine. I read it cover to cover every week. I'm a little behind, but I could not tear away from Dickens as of late.

Dickens' The Pickwick Papers

What I'm reading right now is The Pickwick Papers, by Charles Dickens.

Finished The Day of the Locust, which is magical: a sad and true book about sham.
