What I'm reading right now is Gabriel Garcia Marquez's book of memoirs, Vivir Para Contarla.

Over the break I finished From a Buick 8, which was pretty good but smaller in every regard than previous King efforts. Still, the man can sketch a character pretty well and can make it seem effortless. Also read Eggers' new one, You Shall Know Our Velocity (excellent! funny, focused, well worth your time) and Tartt's The Little Friend (excellent! but frustrating! because the MacGuffin is never solved, and while the book might not have needed it, if you're setting up a mystery for God's sake clear it. (unless it was cleared and I somehow missed it, which wouldn't be too surprising.) And yet for that one flaw the book works. Read it. You don't want to miss out on meeting Harriet.)
