What I'm reading right now is W.N.P. Barbellion's Journal of a Disappointed Man. Good stuff so far and w/ one of the best opening lines ever:

Am writing an essay on the life-history of insects and have abandoned the idea of writing on "How Cats Spend their Time."One feels in the middle of a moving, tragic true-life story or a wonderful hoax. But all cursory evidence points to the former.
